A serious road accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Kolkata’s Sector V area, once again raising concerns over reckless driving on the busy IT corridor. The incident took place around 5 am when a high-speed suv travelling from Chingrighata towards New Town lost control near Sector V metro station.
According to initial information, the suv first collided with the rear of an app-based cab while descending from an overpass. The impact caused the vehicle to veer off course, after which it mounted the divider and crashed into trees and a lamp post, leaving the suv severely damaged.
Eyewitnesses stated that the accident occurred between 5 am and 5:15 am. A black suv moving towards New Town from the Sector V IT hub reportedly lost control due to overspeeding before hitting the cab and striking the divider. The front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled due to the force of the collision.
Four occupants of the suv, including three men and one woman, sustained injuries in the crash. Two injured persons were discharged after primary treatment, while the driver and a front-seat passenger remain under medical care. Police have seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation. Locals have alleged that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol, which is being verified through medical examination.
